The Neuroscience of Dreams — Where REM Sleep Meets Dream Interpretation

The AI reading framed it differently — something like "an emotional weight tied to a specific decision or window you feel you're letting slip," with explicit caveats that this was a hypothesis to test, not a verdict. The article's point above, drawn from Domhoff (2003), that **patterns and emotion outweigh single symbols**, was much more obvious once I had two readings of the same dream sitting next to each other.
What's interesting is that within a week of seeing that reframing, I made a decision I'd been quietly postponing for months. The dream stopped after that. I can't claim causality — Stickgold's (2005) work on memory consolidation makes it perfectly plausible the dream would have faded anyway as the underlying tension resolved. But the article's framing of dreams as **emotional-processing signal rather than oracle** matched my own experience better than the dictionary did.
One practical note I'll keep: if a dream repeats for three weeks or more, it's probably worth listening to — but the meaning is more likely to live in your current life than in any universal symbol table. That's where the neuroscience and the clinical literature roughly agree, and it's also where my own n = 1 experience landed.
